Crunch Time

I am down to 2 days to go until the beginning of this project.  31st of May, and the 1st of June are before us, and tomorrow we’ll have a dinner out to honor my daughter’s 6th grade graduation.  As an aside, I always viewed graduations as moving from one thing to a bigger thing, as in moving from high school to college, or high school to starting life as an adult, or college into a career.  She’s moving from 6th grade to middle school — a big thing?  Not in my opinion, but the school does this graduation so we’ll attend and take her to dinner.

Anyway, the project starts the day after the last day of school (ironically, NOT the day after the graduation, but the day after that!).  I’ve not really got a big plan for Day #1 — just a menu set up as usual, and the usual groceries bought.  My plan is simply to have the kids finish their school lunches, and move on into fresh local foods, and home cooked meals.  I’ve got some french toast in the freezer, lots of lettuce and veggies and fruits, lemonade made from scratch.  We’ll see how it goes.

I do worry that I’ll be sabotaged along the way.  Hubby is resistant at his core, mainly because he loves fast food and thinks going out to eat is the best treat.  I’m hoping to change his mind, but I’m not sure that I can.  Heck, I’m not sure I can keep him from running to the store and buying things that I don’t want to have in the house — store bought ice cream, chocolate syrup, white bread, etc.  I already know that some store-bought things will be have to be in the house — tub margarine, grape jelly, lunch meat.  I am one person, I can only do so much — slicing my own lunch meat or making grape jelly isn’t in the picture right now.  Hopefully we’ll just focus on other foods and not worry about things.

I did make trail mix too — 5 bags so that everyone gets exactly what they want and nothing they don’t.  My son loves raisins and chocolate, but hates salty foods ruining those tastes.  My husband hates raisins or fruit.  My youngest and I will eat pretty much everything.  Everyone has something they like now!

Looking forward to Day #1!!!
